Third-Person Shooter (TPS)

Third-person shooter (TPS) is a subgenre of 3D shooter games in which the gameplay consists primarily of shooting. It is closely related to first-person shooters, but with the player character visible on-screen during play. While 2D shoot ’em up games also employ a third-person perspective, the TPS genre is distinguished by having the game presented with the player’s avatar as a primary focus of the camera’s view.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is a 2013 tactical third-person shooter video game developed by 2K Marin and published by 2K. The eighth title in the turn-based strategy series X-COM and a narrative prequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, it was released for PlayStation 3, Windows, and Xbox 360 in August 2013. Set in late 1962 at the height of the Cold War, the game’s premise mainly revolves around The Bureau, the predecessor of the Extraterrestrial Combat Unit (XCOM), as they attempt to repel an alien invasion. As a tactical shooter, players can use the battle focus mode to issue commands to two other agents accompanying the protagonist, William Carter. Players can permanently lose their squad members so they must make good tactical decisions.

X-COM: Enforcer

X-COM: Enforcer is the sixth game in the X-COM series, but takes place in a time line separate to that which was established by the first four games of the series. Enforcer is an action third-person shooter without the strategy game elements of previous games. It was the last game released in the series until Firaxis Games’ 2012 reboot.

Helldivers 2 is a 2024 cooperative third-person shooter game developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5 and Windows. The game is the direct sequel to Helldivers (2015). Set in the 22nd century, the story follows the Helldivers, an elite force of shock troops dispatched to combat various threats to humanity.
