Survival horror is one of gaming’s most nebulous genres. Traditionally defined by limited resources, oppressive tension, and a fight for survival against terrifying odds, the genre has evolved far beyond its roots. Modern survival horror often bleeds into psychological thrillers, sci-fi adventures, and even open-world exploration. What ties it all together is a constant sense of dread and vulnerability, where victory feels hard-earned and fleeting. From cinematic blockbusters to minimalist indies, survival horror has proven to be one of the most fascinating corners of gaming.

Steam is the world’s most popular destination for PC gaming, so if a game makes it to the top of the platform’s charts, that’s saying something. Recently, EA’s Battlefield 6 launched on October 10 and reached more than 745,000 peak concurrent players. That makes it the No. 14 biggest Steam game of all time based on concurrent players. It’s the second time that Battlefield 6 ranks in the top 20 as well, as the game’s open beta stands at No. 2 with more than 520,000 peak concurrent players.

Choosing the best Nintendo Switch games is no easy task. The hybrid handheld-console has been home to some of the best games in Nintendo’s own venerated franchises like Mario and The Legend of Zelda, alongside a massive array of third-party hits. With such a strong catalog of games, narrowing down the standouts to the very best isn’t super easy, but that’s what we’ve attempted with our list of the best Nintendo Switch games.
